Huge amount of extra stuff at bottom of each page now

I've noticed recently that at the bottom of each page of posts the amount of "stuff" that has built up is huge.

Below the last post on the page there is:
    • There's the old fashioned Post Reply button and the Page Numbers button.
    • Then there's the site location/map type bar (boards.ie > sys > feedback)
    • Then there's bookmarks with Digg, Stumble Upon etc.
    • Then there's tags
    • Google ads
    • Quick Reply
    • Previous Thread / Next Thread
    • Posting Rules
    • Similar Threads
    • Time Zone
    • Bar with Quick Style Chooser
    • Copyright Message

In my opinon it's become quite obtrusive and makes judging how far down the page you're scrolling too quite difficult because a significant portion of the scroll bars "run" is now taken up by the useless less important bottom stuff.

Also if you're revisiting a thread and you're not sure which page you left it on you have to scroll quickly through it. This was easy to do before because you could scroll to the bottom, read the last post and hit next for the next page but now you have to scroll to somewhere in the middle to read the last post.

Is there any possibility all the extra stuff at the bottom could be compressed using much smaller text or even certain bits of it removed?

Of course it may be just me, in which case I'll have to suck it up.

They have been there for a long time now, but are more noticable since the advert was added so those sections were now made smaller to fit the advert. Other stuff on the list hasnt changed tho.

I'm quite a fan of the new layout I must say, and I don't really feel that its that cluttered at all...

Well you can get rid of the ads top and bottom by subscribing :pac:

Personally I've no use for the following:
    • digg bar
    • quick reply box
    • previous/next thread
    • time zone bar
    • quick style chooser

They aren't exactly intruding on the page though and the issue of judging how far you need to scroll isn't really that big a deal.

I wouldn't mind the digg bar and quick reply box being optional in your CP. They could disappear without affecting the aesthetics of the site greatly.

I know that. The new ads just reminded me!

I wonder coud the quick reply, bookmarks, tags, posting rules and similar threads be made optional in the User CP?

They could but would require some work to make them optional.

You can request this in the development forum.

Imo, the Similar Threads info is fairly irrelevant the vast majority of the time. This page shows three similar threads, one from 2002 and two from 2006. I presume there would be a slight response time improvement if this feature was done away with.

You can collapse the "Similar threads" & "Posting Rules" by clicking the '-' symbol to the right of the text.

From what I can tell they will stay collapsed as you browse around.

Maybe make the "Bookmarks" & "Tags" collapseable?

Or use AdBlock Plus to get rid of them!

Maybe if you could subscribe using Laser....

Anyways the ad's have been moved to the side now which works better for everyone imo.

Boards.ie is now known as "Real Estate". Go figure and just suck it up :p

Too much crap at the bottom.

I don't even know, as a subscriber, what I can get rid of.

Most of it should be "opt in" instead of "opt out".

Boards got horrible to use over the last while.

Too much "deciding" what to do at the bottom of threads.

Either go commercial, or stop pretending to not be.

Is it a coincidence that this has coincided with the daft involvement? Probably, but it looks suspicious to me.

I don't like using Boards any more.

Also, the "old school" users defending it doesn't look good either. But meh about that.
